Flats and skinny jeans may be comfortable, but if you're feeling that your wardrobe is a bit ho-hum these days, it's time to spice things up. For an instant style boost, add any of these five glamorous finds to your outfits this fall. They complement a variety of styles and body types, says Jeanette Scott, the fashionista behind budget-savvy blog J's Everyday Fashion.

1. Military Jackets

From leather bombers to majorette jackets, the military look is storming the runway. Wear this outerwear piece in cool tones, like gray, or in surprising hues, like dusty rose. "Keep your military jacket feminine by pairing it with items you generally only find in the women's section like lace tops, a flirty dress, a floral print, sequins or polka dots," says Scott.

2. Over-The-Knee Boots

Don't shy away from these statement boots! While short booties are still hot, over-the-knee boots are completely cutting edge. To keep your look more luxe than cheap, wear them in matte leather or suede, not shiny patent leather. Scott recommends balancing your wild boots with a conservative outfit like a blazer and skinny jeans or a preppy skirt with a button-down top. "Always consider pairing opposites to achieve balance in an outfit," she notes.

3. Emerald Green

This fall, dress up in this brilliant color, which was voted Pantone's Color of the Year 2013. Emerald green is one of the most versatile colors: “It looks great on olive, dark and fair skin tones and with any hair color," says Scott. Incorporate emerald green into your wardrobe with a bold statement piece, like a purse, bubble necklace or coat.

4. Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks aren't just warm and cozy – they're fashionable, too! "No matter what your cup size, a turtleneck sweater looks the most flattering when you pair it with layers," says Scott. "Try adding a military vest that cinches at the waist to create an hourglass silhouette. Or wear your turtleneck peeking out from under a blazer, or with a chunky scarf."

5. Oversized Coats

Buy your new coat one size larger than normal; the oversize look is hot! If you're concerned that you'll look like you're swimming in your jacket, don't worry, that's the point. "An oversized coat is, in fact, meant to be oversized," laughs Scott, who recommends pairing it with a slim bottom like skinny pants and streamlined boots. "Or skip the trend altogether and go for a belted pea coat. Outwear always adds a little extra volume, but something with a belt helps create shape."
