The Ohio State Highway Patrol says they are investigating an injury crash involving a Napoleon police officer who was responding to assist in a police chase.
Sheriff's officials say they found 28-year-old Rickey Rye breaking into the Vernon Nagel Contracting Company around 1:30 a.m. When deputies approached Rye, he got in his car and sped away.
State Patrol say Napoleon Officer Bradley Strickland, 28, was responding to assist the sheriff's deputies in the chase when he failed to negotiate a curve on County Road O3, west of County Road 11 in Harrison Township.
His patrol car went off the south side of the road, striking a utility pole and a small tree and overturning in a field.
Strickland was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt during the time of the crash.
Rye was arrested a short distance from Vernon Nagel and faces several charges, including breaking and entering, failure to comply and possessing criminal tools.
