County fixes stop sign that caused cars to land in resident's yard

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have taken steps to ease a dangerous intersection near Whitehouse. A new traffic sign was installed and a current stop sign fixed Wednesday at the intersection of Maji Road and CR 2194. This was done in response to a resident claiming two cars had driven into her front yard within the past year due to running the stop sign.

"Somebody's going to get hurt or killed, and I've been trying to get help out here for a couple of years," Ronda Mothershed, the homeowner, said.

A broken headlight lying in the front yard isn't quite the housewarming gift Ronda Mothershed was hoping for when she moved in four years ago.

"They just ran the stop sign, in and out of the yard, and kept on going. You can see the skid marks down the road where they kept skidding out," said Mothershed.

A ditch in her front lawn barely catches the cars before they go barreling into her bedroom.

The stop sign at the intersection is severely bent, making it difficult to see, especially at night. Ronda is just thankful the damage hasn't been worse.

"Somebody's going to get killed, and I don't want that, and I don't want to get a car in my bedroom," she said.

County Commissioner Cary Nix and The Smith County Sheriff's Department will continue to monitor the intersection to see if further action is needed.
