TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A 9-year-old Tyler girl is in foster care while officials investigate a reported assault against the girl and her mother.

Child Protective Services says they are doing their own investigation alongside law enforcement.

Tyler police responded to the girl's home on the 1300 block of Bellehaven Court just before 1 a.m., last Friday. There they were informed that 52-year-old Vahid Lamea had assaulted his wife and 9-year-old daughter with a knife.

The wife and daughter were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

According to police, Lamea had assaulted them with a butter knife after an argument with his daughter. Officers say the mother stepped in to protect her child when she was stabbed.

CPS says the child will stay in foster care until the investigation is complete. She is the only child the couple has.

Vahid Lamea is in the Smith County Jail charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and failure to identify.
