SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A couple from Moore has been charged after deputies found their house in unsanitary conditions and a "sniper's nest" in the bedroom, according to the deputies report.

Spartanburg County deputies said they met with a DSS investigator at a house in Moore on Oct. 15 because the investigator said the man living there had recently been arrested for growing marijuana.

Deputies said there were signs outside the house that said, "I don't dial 911" and "No trespassing, violators will be shot, survivors will be shot again."

When deputies went into the house they said they found a 12 gauge shotgun and a .22 long rifle near a bay window. They said both guns were loaded and didn't have the safety on.

Deputies said the glass on the bay window was frosted with "view ports cleared in the glass."

According to deputies, the house was filled with soiled clothes, dirty dishes and the children's rooms were in disarray.

When deputies asked Derrick Lister, 28, about the unsecured and loaded guns, Lister began telling his 4-year-old child to tell their mother to lock up the guns, according to the deputy's report.

Lister and his wife, Catherine Lister, 26, were both charged with two counts of neglect of a child or helpless person, according to jail records.

FOX Carolina spoke with Catherine Lister on Monday, who said everything happened because they were being targeted by a neighbor.

"It's all false lies," she said. "They're just not telling the truth. They're out to get us and it ain't happening."

Deputies said they then took the guns and several dozen rounds of ammunition into custody.
