East Texas woman reveals three wishes on 100th birthday

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Happy birthday, Margaret Wood! Wood celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday with a party at Prestige Estates in Tyler.

Yellow roses were the theme at her birthday party and Wood had three birthday wishes.

“I only wish that all of you could live to be one hundred," said Wood, for her first wish.

She may have the secret to living to one hundred, she just doesn’t know what it is!

“I certainly didn’t do anything great to belong here, other than I love vegetables, that helps,” she said.

She’s from Boston, but wears her love for Texas, showing off a yellow rose corsage on her blouse.

She’s in good health, and good spirits, saying, “at least my doctor seems to think I’m going to a 103!”

Margaret has seen a lot of changes over the last century, but, she admits, the computer is the most impressive of all.

“I cannot understand them, I only wish I had worked long enough to have learned the computer,” she said.

She and her friends - and she has a lot of friends - do enjoy books on tape, though. That’s what she and her best friend, Doris Parker, bonded over.

“She’s a friend to everyone,” Parker said.

Wood has some advice for those still making their way to 100 and her third wish is to all.

“Try to get along with people, not everybody can get along, but it would be nice if we all could,” Margaret continued, “you do what you like as long as you live within the law.”

Margaret Wood never had any children, but all ten of her nieces and nephews and their spouses showed up for her birthday last weekend.
