Illinois town voted 'Friendliest Small Town in America'

KWQC- It may only have a population of 12,916 people, but those thousands must be pretty nice folks.

Kewanee, Illinois has been named the "Friendliest Small Town in America". When asked where to go in order to soak up some of that niceness, locals will direct you to JoJo's gas station. They say it is the friendliest place to go in the nation's friendliest town.

Kewanee city leaders and business owners say it comes as no shock that the town took home the award.

"Everybody is friendly. You can walk down the street and everyone says hi. I walk around town, drop in a store, everyone says hi. You just talk to people and they're very friendly," says business owner Sue Sagmoen.

Sagmeon owns the small town's only gift shop and  hopes this prestigious award will help boost the city's tourism. While the town hopes for that bump to become a tourist attraction, residents are just satisfied with the title. For now, they say there is always room for improvement before next year.
