ETX U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert is 'hurting' over Congress' decision

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON D.C. (KLTV) -

Every East Texas congressman, including Louie Gohmert, voted against the bill to end the government shutdown and increase the nation's debt ceiling.

Gohmert says he is hurting over having to push Washington's problems down to future generations, "That's just not right and so we'll continue to stand for what we believe is right and what our constituents believe is right because it's what I believe is right ... being responsible for ourselves making sure our generation does not put off our self indulgence on future generations."

Gohmert says republicans caved to media pressure more than pressure from constituents to come to a bipartisan agreement.

"I don't think you ever do wrong by standing for what's right and we did educate an awful lot of Americans and even the national media had to pay attention to how bad the rollout of Obamacare was."

He says America does need healthcare reforms but a government takeover is not the solution.

"We've gotten emails and letters and calls from people all over East Texas about how devastating it is to them, how they've lost their doctor, they didn't get to keep the doctor they liked, they lost their insurance or the insurance they have has gone up dramatically."

Gohmert says republicans will not stop trying to change the president's health care law but this was the last time they could stop its widespread effects, "As far as for most American's it doesn't fix anything, it doesn't help East Texans with the problems we've heard about so I cannot vote for it."

He says in the end people will realize republicans were standing up for what was right. He also says the House passed several bills to try and help veterans and other people being seriously affected by the shutdown. He says the Senate was more interested in a bill to fund federal workers than a bill to fund our country's veterans.
