Evansville roommates fighting to get back their pet pygmy goats

Two Evansville roommates who had their pet pygmy goats taken from them are fighting to get them back on Wednesday.

Those little goats used to live with the guys at their home in Evansville.  That is until animal control showed up at their door, handing over an eviction notice to their miniature friends.

"They're very novel and they're adorable. I love them," Bradley Davis said.

Cole Raven and Bradley Davis now have to travel if they want to visit their former roommates.

"This is about 35 miles north of our actual house to visit our pets. It's pretty terrible. I'd rather just go to our backyard to see our pets," Raven said.

The guys say their pets were taken because of a city ordinance that bans all large animals, including all goats.

"But these pygmy goats are actually smaller than most large dogs. In fact, they only get up to 70 pounds when yet some Great Danes get 100 to 200 pounds," Raven told 14 News.

"My roommate and I, we're college guys. We didn't really want to mess with all the up keep of the dogs, so a pygmy goat, you feed them once or twice a day and you're done with them," Davis said.

"We feed them cabbage in the kitchen, and carrots," Raven shared.

The guys are now fighting to get their pets back home. They recently appeared before the Evansville City Council in hopes of getting that ordinance changed to allow this breed of goat to become a city dweller.

"The worst thing they'll do is bahhh at you or every now and then they might come up and eat something out of your hand or lick you," Raven said.

"They're browsers. They don't graze. So, they're not going to eat all your grass. They actually only eat weeds, which is great," Davis said.

The guys say pygmy goats are legal in some larger cities across the country and they plan to do everything they can to get Evansville on that list.

"We've been seeing it through. We're planning, getting our facts together for a couple of weeks, went to the meeting, and now we're hoping to pull through and get our goats back home," Raven said.

The guys say they plan to talk with the city attorney in the next few days to see what needs to be done to get that ordinance changed.
