Family of murdered Brown County woman speaks out

BROWN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

Aubree Stykes, the 15-month old daughter of murdered Brown County woman, Brittany Stykes, is recovering from her fourth brain surgery.

Stykes was found shot to death in her Jeep along a Brown County roadway in August. Aubree was hit with a bullet that night, but survived.

"We don't know who did this, and why it happened. I'm missing my daughter," said Stykes' mother, Mary Dodson.

A few persons of interest, including her husband Shane Stykes, have been cleared, and there have been no arrests.

Now, the days aren't getting any easier for her family.

"They're not any better. There's no peace. There's no comfort," said Stykes' mother.

"Very, very hard. Me and Brittany were very, very close," said David Dodson, Stykes' father.

Since the night Stykes was shot and killed, her daughter Aubree has been in and out of four brain surgeries. The most recent coming Monday at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.

"She's still her happy little self. When she's with us, and we're with her, we get a little bit of peace for that moment, for that time that we are with her," said Mary Dodson.

Stykes was just 22-years old when she was murdered. She comes from a tight-knit family of five children, who all eat dinner together at the Dodson's house every night.

"Brittany was more of a best friend, is where we had gotten to, as opposed to father-daughter. We were always together," David Dodson told FOX19.

Her family says it's evident that, even so young, Aubree misses her mother. They're pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

"That is the only way my family's going to get any peace, because right now, we don't have any," said Stykes' mother.

Stykes was 17 weeks pregnant with another child when she was killed. But, as for Aubree, her grandparents say all went well with the girl's surgery, and they're hopeful she'll leave the hospital in the next few days.

A $10,000 reward is being offered in the case. If you know anything, call the Brown County Sheriff's Office at (937) 378-4435, or call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
