TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

If you were disappointed when Festival on the Square was canceled, you’re not alone. The Main Street Department of Tyler, which puts on Festival on the Square,  usually makes between $10,000 to $30,000, which makes up a large chunk of the department's budget. This would have been the festival's 26th year.

The bands and performers were contracted, so that cost is a total loss for the department.

Beverly Abell, the leader for the City of Tyler Main Street Department, says they’ll have to make up for this loss in other upcoming events.

“It was a really hard decision to make and it always is and it’s certainly a huge financial loss. But it disappoints the audience, it disappoints the bands, but it certainly disappoints the volunteers who spent so much time putting it together,” she said.

Those who purchased tickets are able to receive their refund from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, at Gallery Main Street. Many people, however, have decided to consider their ticket purchase a donation and have told Abell to keep their money.

Festival on the Square will not be rescheduled this year.
