PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A woman who had fallen asleep in front of a television was able to safely escape a fire in her two-story house early Monday morning.

Phoenix fire Capt. David Gore said the woman awoke about 2:45 a.m. to popping sounds and realized the second floor of the structure near 26th Street and Acoma Drive was on fire. She was waiting outside with her dog when firefighters arrived.

Flames were shooting from the second-story windows when firefighters arrived, Gore said.

The second story was destroyed and the ground floor had some smoke and water damage, forcing the woman and dog to find temporary housing, Gore said.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Gore said.
