LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

According to the Lufkin Police Department incident report, a mother reported that her small child was unresponsive Friday Morning. The baby was taken to Memorial Medical Center around 10 a.m. and later died.

An Angelina County Justice of The Peace ordered an autopsy Friday morning after the child's death occurred, according to Lufkin Police spokesman JB Smith.

"Anytime a child dies the Justice of the Peace is required to order an autopsy," Smith said. "This case is currently under investigation."

Authorities investigating the death of the child said this is being ruled an unintended death and the mother has not been charged with anything.

"The Lufkin Police Department and Child Protective Services are waiting for the autopsy results," Smith said.

The child's name is being withheld.
