SIOUX FALLS, SD (KLTV) - According to KSTP in Minneapolis, the 2-year-son of Palestine-native and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has died after an incident at a South Dakota home Wednesday.

The child was rushed to the hospital after police found him unresponsive at a home in Sioux Falls. The two-year-old was in the care of 27-year-old Joseph Patterson, who is believed to be the boyfriend of the child's mother, and no one else was at the home.

At the hospital, it was concluded that the toddler's injuries resulted from abuse. Patterson was taken into custody and is being held on two felony counts of aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated domestic assault. Bond is expected to be set Friday.

Peterson spoke about the incident and whether he will in this Sunday's game at a press conference.

"I should start off by saying I really appreciate the support that I've been receiving from fans, the Vikings organization. This is a private matter and I would ask you all to please just respect my privacy and not ask at all about the situation," said Peterson.

The football star did answer questions about if he plans to play Sunday.

"I will be playing Sunday, without a doubt," said Peterson earlier on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, Peterson posted the following statement on his Facebook page:

"Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support. The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players. God Bless everyone and thank u so much."
