GILMER, TX (KLTV) -

Former Upshur County Commissioner Lloyd Crabtree was sentenced to five years of probation and 200 hours of community service as part of a plea agreement for his part in an October 2012 incident involving a Texas Game Warden. He is also required to attend anger management classes and pay court costs and fines.

Crabtree, 52,  was arrested for aggravated assault against a public servant October 6, 2012 in Big Sandy after he held a Game Warden at gun point. State Game Warden Shane Bailey went onto the private property of the Crabtree family to do a routine check of hunters.

Over two dozen Texas Game Wardens turned out for Crabtree's hearing Friday in Gilmer. Game warden officials at the hearing were satisfied with the agreement and sentencing, saying it sends a definite message of "you can't do this."

"We feel like that's justified, it sends a clear message that we're not going to tolerate people disarming peace officers in the state of Texas," says major David Murray of Texas parks and wildlife.

But some thought the plea was light.

"What if he'd have pulled the trigger out there? Then what would it have been? That sends a signal also," said courtroom observer Jim Coughroe.

Bailey was confronted by two armed men who pointed their weapons at him and disarmed him. The Game Warden used his cell phone to call 911 for help. Officials responded to the scene and were able to safely release the Game Warden. Crabtree was arrested and taken to the Upshur County Sheriff's office.

His son Todd , facing similar charges, has a later court date.
