HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A 66-year-old Harrison County woman and her husband were injured in a fire on Thursday afternoon.

Family members, who were on scene during the fire, say the woman was transported to the LSU Burn Center in Shreveport by helicopter after she was severely burned in the fire. Her condition is unknown at this time, although she was coherent at the scene.

Family say the husband was transported by ambulance to Good Shepard in Longview for high blood pressure and shock.

Family members called 911 when they saw the house on fire.

They say the woman's husband saw her run out of the home on fire.

"When he got over there, he saw her running out in flames," said Joanne York, the man's sister-in-law. "He ran over to her and put her out and how he did that I don't know because I was on the phone with 911."

Family members say the fire may have started in the kitchen.

"My brother said she put the skillet on the stove, and was heating the grease to cook," said Jack York, the woman's brother-in-law. "Then she went to wash dishes, and I guess the skillet got hot, and caught fire. She tried to put it out I guess on her shirt because that was burnt."

Family members say she suffered third degree burns.

"She had her oxygen on and from what I understand, holes got burnt on her lip, and nose," said Jack York. "I was told she had third degree burns, and one of her fingers fused together.

Nesbitt, Ore City and Harleton Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene. The home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
