Two arrested for armed robbery after police chase

MARSHALL, TX - On Thursday at 1:51 a.m. Marshall Police Department Communication received a call reporting an armed robbery of the EZ Mart located at 2507 West Pinecrest Drive inside the city limits of Marshall, Texas.

Marshall police officers responded to the area and attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the vicinity. The driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued eastbound onto Holland Street for several blocks before coming to an end at the 1900 block. The passenger exited the vehicle and began fleeing on foot from officers. After a short chase, the passenger was apprehended and taken into custody. The passengers clothing matched the description of the suspects in the robbery given by the clerk from EZ Mart.

The suspects apprehended were identified as Eric Charles Cooks, 39, of Marshall, Texas. Cooks was charged with aggravated robbery which is a 1st degree felony; evading arrest/detention with previous conviction and resisting arrest/search/transport.

Cooks was arraigned on Thursday by JP Megan Pinson and bond was set at $50,000 for aggravated robbery; $7,500 for evading arrest/detention and $3,000 for resist arrest/search/transport.

The second suspect apprehended was identified as Douglas Raymond Johnson, 39, of Marshall. Johnson was also charged with aggravated robbery as well as evading arrest/detention.

Johnson was arraigned on Thursday by JP Megan Pinson and his bond was set at $50, 000 for the Aggravated Robbery charge and $10,000 for the Evading  Arrest/Detention charge.

    A man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck in Harrison County. According to a press release, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling eastbound on US-80 when the vehicle went off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle is identified as Lawrence C. Walls, 49, of Marshall. Walls was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Mike Smith. His body was transported to Meadowbrook Funeral Home.
