Jewish & Mercy Health host Brake for Breakfast

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The Jewish Hospital-Mercy Health marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month by educating the public and encouraging women to get mammograms with the second annual drive-up "Brake for Breakfast" event on Wednesday.

Brake for Breakfast is an annual, free event across the street from the hospital at 4700 E. Galbraith Road, located near the Kenwood Towne Centre.

Women received a free breakfast to go and valuable health information from Mercy Health employees and volunteers, including physicians and staff who've survived cancer, without ever having to leave their cars.

"As women, we tend to put our needs behind the demands of family and career. This is a chance to take a break and put ourselves – and our health and well-being – first," said Elizabeth Weaver, MD, Medical Director of Mammography at The Jewish Hospital Women's Center. "This event invites women to take a convenient break, enjoy breakfast and learn a little something about their health, while also reminding them of the importance of scheduling their annual screening."

The first stop was about "strength," serving a free breakfast bagel, fruit and bottled water.

Stop two is focused on "hope" and volunteers provided drivers with brochures from the American Cancer Society, information about Mercy Health's new tomography unit which provides MRI-like 3D mammograms, details on the Wig Salon at The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health and mammography cards to remind women how to schedule their annual screening.

The final stop honored "courage" and with a special thank you from The Jewish Hospital, which reminds you that courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty. Whether you are a survivor or supporter, you must have courage.

Rosie Red was also there to cheer on attendees.

The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health designed the event to be convenient, benefit the community and raise awareness about the importance of scheduling an annual mammogram.
