TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
Crews responded to a two-alarm structure fire Monday night around 10 p.m. on Monday night in the 2400 Block of Rodge Drive.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames throughout the structure. Crews gained control of the fire in less than one hour but remained on scene throughout the night, working to completely extinguish the blaze.
According to the Tyler Fire Marshal, the home had been vacant for three months, and was poorly taken care of.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but the Tyler Fire Department says there were several electrical hazards.
"The structure was so unsafe, and there was so much fire throughout that we held off on our primary search for victims because the survivability was impossible," said James Suggs, Tyler Deputy Fire Marshal. "I saw several extension cords running through windows, and to the exterior of the home."
The structure's roof collapsed and safety concerns have slowed the investigation.
