TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Members of the Tyler Fire Department competed in the Brookshire's Regional Combat Challenge competition held in Tyler on October 4, 5, and 6. Both Tyler fire teams produced impressive results and have now been invited to compete in the World Firefighter Combat Challenge in Las Vegas.

Tyler fire's Over 40 Team, made up of members all age 40 and over, placed first in their division at the regional competition. This team will be competing in the national competition in Las Vegas, taking place from October 22 to October 27. Members of this team include Jeff Barnett, Brandon Davis, Brent Hail, Terry Hawkins and Randy Lee.

Tyler’s Open Challenge Team placed third overall, competing against 26 other teams from across the country. Members of this team include Brian Boyd, Jeremy Driver, Jeff Hudgens, Patrick Mayo and Jay McClung.

The City of Tyler also entered one team in the Corporate Division. This team, made up of employees from various City of Tyler departments, won first place in their division. Members include Doug Coffman, Luke Porter, Leroy Sparrow and Jimmy Vega.

"This is a great event for our firefighters to test how they compare to other communities, and next year will be even bigger, with Tyler hosting the national competition. None of this would have been possible without the help of all our sponsors and volunteers," said Tyler Fire Chief Tim Johnson.

Firefighters from all over the United States competed in what ESPN has called the "toughest two minutes in sports". This is the eighth year that Tyler has hosted this regional event. Next year, Tyler will host the national three-day event.
