Do you need a little help for the holidays?

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Believeit or not, it's already time to start thinking about the holidays. Registrationfor the Salvation Army's Christmas Assistance Program kicked off Tuesday.

Everyyear, the Salvation Army helps thousands of people in the Toledo area have abrighter holiday season.

"Basically,we help out families, singles, seniors – anyone that is in need for the holidayseason for food baskets or toys," explained Harley Maddox, coordinator of theChristmas Clearing Bureau.

PatriciaBitticks is one Toledo resident who appreciates the service.

"It'sreally a blessing because I cook for myself, I have four little grandbabies,"Bitticks said. "It is a wonderful and beautiful thing."

Bittickssays the program ensures her grandchildren will have food and gifts forChristmas.

"Ithink it means everything, because it's definitely hard, and I can understandhow hard it is to be able to provide for a family, knowing you're doing yourbest and still not able to meet that need," Maddox said. "I'm hoping to help asmany families as will come and apply with us…We helped a little over 2,000 lastyear, so we look to increase our numbers this year."

TheSalvation Army is already taking applications for this year's holiday program.

Applications will be accepted at the Lucas County Jobs & Family Services offices located at 3210 Monroe Street on October 1, 3, 8, and 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Applications will be accepted at The Salvation Army offices located at 620 N Erie Street from Monday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 23 through Friday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Applications will also be accepted downtown on Tuesday, October 24 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., as well as Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
