Medical services for E. Texas veterans not disrupted by shutdown

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Department of Veterans Affairs in North Texas announced today that medical services for veterans in East Texas will not be disrupted by the government shutdown.

The Veterans Health Administration, the branch of Veterans Affairs that operates VA medical centers, has advance appropriations for fiscal year 2014, meaning that funds for the year 2014 have already been dispersed to VA.

VA medical centers in East Texas are part of the VA North Texas Health Care System, which includes facilities in Tyler, Dallas, Ft. Worth and Bonham.

The Department of Veteran Affairs adds that all VA hospitals, clinics and other health services will remain open during the shutdown.
