VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas sheriff's office announced Tuesday they will soon have a new asset added to their department they call "The Beast".
Van Zandt County Sheriff Michael Lindsey Ray says that Van Zandt County law enforcement will now have access to an armored truck. The Van Zandt County Commissioner's Court voted unanimously August 24 to allow the sheriff's office to receive an International Armored Truck that belongs to Brinks Incorporated.
"I recently received a call from Sheriff Ray Nutt in Henderson County, asking if our deputies could benefit from the use of a Brinks armored car. These vehicles have become increasingly more valuable to law enforcement agencies because the environment we work in has become increasingly more dangerous," says Ray.
The armored truck will be used to serve high risk search warrants and high risk arrest warrants. Ray adds that he is trying to create an environment where both the criminal violators who already live in Van Zandt County and those who may come there know the county is no longer a place where criminal activity can be carried out comfortably.
