MT. PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) -
A man accused of stealing over $250,000 worth of property from an East Texas business has now been sentenced to eight years in prison.
According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, 39-year-old Rickey Alton Wright of Mt. Pleasant agreed to an eight year prison sentence, including a restitution plea deal, on Monday.
In December 2012, management at Pilgrim's Pride in Mt. Pleasant reported a series of thefts. An investigation led police to a suspect later identified as Wright, who was a maintenance employee at the facility during the time the thefts occurred. Wright turned himself into Titus County authorities on December 11, 2012. He was taken into custody and charged with theft over $200,000.
Detectives recovered approximately $40,000 worth of the stolen equipment and returned it to Pilgrim's Pride. Police believe Wright sold the rest of the stolen property on the internet for pennies on the dollar compared to what it was actually valued at.
Wright remains in the Titus County Jail awaiting transfer to Morris County Jail where he will face sentencing for a revocation of probation charge. He will then be turned over to the Texas Department of Corrections.
