Freedom Fighters: Carl Amick

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Carl Amick was a U.S. Navy medic assigned to the First Marine Division in the battles of Pelilu and Okinowa.

Penicillin and other medical miracles we take for granted today, weren't available on Pacific Islands during World War Two.

On Okinowa, Amick was well back from the front lines, but close to the wounded and dying. He was a "medical records man" assigned to record every Marine wound and every dead Marine.

He has never forgotten that most of those very young men had been out on the football field at home, catching passes, less than a year before dying for their country.
