EMORY, TX (KLTV) -

A female inmate who escaped a Rains County courtroom Tuesday morning is still on the run, according to local authorities.

Rains County Sheriff’s officials said the woman fled out a side door of the courthouse annex building at 9:46 a.m., taking off either on foot or in a vehicle.

Crystal Robinson was due in court for a probation hearing, when authorities said she was able to slip away—still in handcuffs and without her shoes.

“Some of our county employees noticed a green car by the cemetery and when it left it went towards the courthouse,” said Rains County Chief Deputy Brad Strawn. “That is one lead we are following. We are currently interviewing all the inmates that had contact with her, that were in her pod, trying to get information. We’re working on a couple of leads right now.”

The sheriff’s department said Robinson was handcuffed in a jury box when a constable was called away. When his back was turned, the woman was able to slide out the side door and flee.

“She was sitting in the jury box which is standard practice for our inmates there during pre-trials,” Strawn said. “She exited off the side door and inmates notified us that she exited behind the constables back and outside the court building.”

Robinson was sentenced to six years probation in July for evading arrest with a vehicle and theft by check of less than $500. Authorities said a pending case in neighboring Hunt County may be a motive for her fleeing today.

“She's currently person of interest in offense in Hunt County that I am aware of,” Strawn said. “That may be one of the reasons she decided to leave.”

Authorities said the woman is from Rains County, but has contacts in Hunt and Van Zandt counties as well.

If you see Robinson, you are asked to contact the Rains County Sheriff at (903) 473-3181 ext. 137.
