SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

In a meeting held Tuesday morning, the Smith County Commissioner's Court agreed to lift the burn ban in Smith County.

Smith County Fire Marshall Jim Seaton still urges residence to use caution when burning household trash and other restricted items. The KDBI (drought index) is now below 300, down from over 700 last week.

The burn ban, which was first put in place on August 22, had been extended on August 27.

Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Titus, Kaufman, Rains, Van Zandt, Henderson, Nacogdoches, Houston, Angelina, Polk, Tyler and Newton counties in East Texas remain under a burn ban.
