When Barbara Anderson first walked into the East Texas Food Bank in 1989, she only intended to volunteer. But it wasn't long before she became Executive Director, and created a legacy in her leadership of feeding the hungry in East Texas.
Anderson has more than doubled the amount of food, ten and a half million pounds a year, given out in the twenty seven East Texas counties the Food Bank serves. In addition, she established the "Kids Cafe" after school program, which purchases food from wholesale sources and the fresh produce program.
Under Anderson's guidance the Food Bank's volunteers have grown from four to over four hundred. This month, Barbara Anderson will take on a new challenge as State Director of Second Harvest Food Banks. The East Texas Regional Food Bank will be one of nineteen such agencies under her direction.
