Two men are facing drug charges after troopers seized 20 pounds of marijuana, worth more than $90,000 following a traffic stop in Erie County.
Troopers stopped a 2005 Chrysler 300 for a following too closely on the Ohio Turnpike on September 18. Troopers detected a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. During interaction with the passenger, he surrendered a small bag of marijuana from his pants pocket. A search of the vehicle revealed three suitcases containing the 20 pounds of marijuana. In addition, troopers also discovered 19 Hydrocodone pills and two small jars of suspected hashish.
The driver, Jay A. Clower, 36, of Mussey, Mich., and passenger, Ryan N. Renusch, 23, of Pittsboro, N.C., were arrested. Each man was charged with possession and trafficking in marijuana. If convicted, each could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine. Renusch was also charged with possession of a schedule III drug.
