Alabama defeats Colorado State 31-6 at first home game

NO. 1 ranked Alabama defeated Colorado State 31-6 at their first home game at Bryant Denny Stadium. After winning the coin toss, the Tide elected to receive the football for the first half.  

Alabama lead the first half 17-0 against the Rams.

In the second half the Rams came back leaving the score Alabama 31 CSU 6.

Regarding the first half Head Coach Nick Saban said, "We obviously made some mistakes. We need to continue to play those (younger) guys. The biggest thing to me is that we haven't finished. We missed some big plays offensively, not due to anything they (Colorado State) are doing."

GAME CAPTAINS: Alabama's captains for today's game against Colorado State are AJ McCarron, C.J. Mosley and Jalston Fowler. The Crimson Tide won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff.
 
TIDE 64-3 UNDER SABAN WHEN LEADING AT THE HALF: Alabama enters halftime with a 17-0 lead over Colorado State. The Crimson Tide is 64-3 when leading at the half under head coach Nick Saban.
 
SCORING STREAK CONTINUES: With sophomore running back Kenyan Drake's 3-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, Alabama has scored in 159 consecutive games – the longest streak in program history.
 
DILLON LEE SCORES FIRST TOUCHDOWN OF HIS CAREER: Sophomore linebacker Dillon Lee recorded the first touchdown of his Alabama career in the second quarter after returning a blocked punt 15 yards. It was the third blocked punt return for a touchdown since head coach Nick Saban arrived in 2007. It was also the first since Brandon Gibson took one 22 yards against Georgia State on Nov. 18, 2010.
 
NON-OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS IN THE SABAN ERA: Sophomore linebacker Dillon Lee's 15-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter marked the 33rd non-offensive touchdown of the Nick Saban era. Since Saban took over in 2007, the Crimson Tide has garnered 14 interception returns, eight punt returns, five kickoff returns, three fumble returns and three blocked punt returns for a touchdown.
 
MANDELL BOOTS SEVENTH PUNT OVER 50 THIS SEASON: Senior punter Cody Mandell launched his seventh 50-plus yard punt of the season in the first quarter. Thus far, 50.0 percent (7-of-14) of his attempts have been over the 50-yard mark in 2013. For his career, Mandell has kicked 144 punts for 6,026 yards and an average of 41.8 yards per punt.
