Nashville musicians perform to save The Contributor

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville musicians performed at Eastwood Christian Church Saturday to help The Contributor stay afloat.

The non-profit newspaper provides homeless vendors with a source of income for selling issues.

The Contributor's rapid growth has put a strain on the newspaper, which now only has enough money to run another 6 weeks.

Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet student Allison Pao, and members of her music quartet, decided to raise money and awareness with a benefit concert to save the paper.

"Our family always supports the vendors of The Contributor and we were all devastated when we heard that they might be on their final issue because it's really important to Nashville. So it's really sad if they can't continue," Allison told WSMV.

Members of the Nashville Symphony and Allison's own group, The Pearl String Quartet, performed in the concert.

Over 100people attended the event, including The Contributor's Linda Bailey, assistant editor, and David Walley, the board of directors' interim president.

The concert raised over $2,000 to help save The Contributor; organizers received $375 from donors who could not attend the benefit.
