GILMER, TX (KLTV) -
An Upshur County man was given three prison sentences for charges of manslaughter and sexual assault of a child.
21-year-old Benjamin Lee Powers of Gilmer received two 14-year sentences and one 15-year sentence, which he will serve concurrently.
Powers was charged with manslaughter in connection to a 2011 crash that caused the death of 19-year-old Caderrius Green. He was originally placed on ten years deferred adjudication. Two charges of sexual assault of a child stem from a complaint made by his girlfriend's father after he learned his daughter was pregnant with Powers' child.
He will have to serve at least half his sentence before being eligible for parole. Upon release, Powers must register as a registered sex offender.
