E. Texas tour bus collision leaves two dead

PANOLA COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - East Texas emergency crews responded to a major accident on Highway 59 in Panola County early Thursday morning.

According to the Panola County Sheriff's Department, an 18-wheeler collided with a commercial passenger bus near the intersection of Farm to Market 1794, just north of Carthage.

The driver of the bus and one passenger were found to be deceased as a result of their injuries when officials arrived at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported by helicopter to a Tyler hospital. Other bus passengers were treated for minor injuries and released.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, Beckville Fire Department, Panola County Sheriff's Office, and Harrison County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident. The cause of the wreck is unknown at this time. Identities of the deceased have not been released.

The bus was operated by El Expreso out of Houston. In the last two years, the company reports zero crashes. El Expreso operates 22 motor coaches and leases five more. The company also operates 24-passenger vans.
