TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler Fire Department is getting ready to 'Turn Tyler Pink'.

Turn Tyler Pink an event the Tyler Fire Department is holding on at the Downtown Square in Tyler October 1st, from 5-7 p.m.

It's part of a campaign for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which starts October 1st.

The Tyler Fire Department is selling t-shirts, hoodies and baseball caps and are encouraging citizens to wear pink for their event.

These firefighters are trying to bring awareness to breast cancer and will be donating the money they raise to women who are battling cancer.

"We're selling pink t-shirts and other things to raise funds," said Steven Wieczor, firefighter with the Tyler Fire Department. "Half of the money we give away to local and national cancer organizations and then the other half we usually distribute it to our firefighters and their families if they are battling cancer."

You can buy your pink wear at the Tyler firefighters booth at the East Texas State Fair, the Gallery Main Street and at the Holiday Inn on South Broadway.
