Tyler police confirm five people have been taken to the hospital following an accident involving a Tyler Independent School District school bus.

Tyler ISD officials said TISD Bus 14 was involved in an accident near the intersection of Old Omen Road and McDonald Road.

TISD officials said there were 47 elementary students on the bus leaving Clarkston Elementary School when the accident happened.

Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department said the driver of the bus, Richard Pittman of Chandler, pulled out in front of an SUV, causing the collision.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as 26-year-old Christina Fuentes. Mother Frances confirms Fuentes along with four students were taken to the hospital where they are all listed in good condition.

Tyler police tell us Pittman was issued a citation. Following the accident, TISD confirms he was taken in for a drug test, which he passed. They tell us he will be back on his route on Tuesday morning.

As the district contacted parents, another bus was called to the scene to take the children home.
