MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Investigators say they now have a person of interest in the death of an elderly woman found inside the trunk of her car last year in Butler County.

Barbara Howe, 86, was found dead on November 1, 2012 shortly after she had been reported missing. Her 2005 red Cadillac STS was found at the Woodridge Park East Apartments in Middletown. She was last seen days before in Monroe.

The cause of death has not been released by authorities.

According to Monroe Police, detectives now have a "person of interest" but no other information has been released. They are still working closely with the prosecutor's office.

Police previously asked the public for help in the case, seeking information from anyone who may have picked up a hitchhiker or saw one in the area.

A $10,000 reward was also offered for any tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
