LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police were called out to investigate a report of shots fired on Hopkins St. in Lufkin just after midnight Sunday.

The caller gave responding officers a description and they were able to locate a Ford Explorer with a Hispanic male inside on Atkinson Dr.

When officers tried to stop Herberto Alonso, 21, of Lufkin, he did not immediately stop for police but instead continued to drive until he pulled into a residence on Warren Street.

When officers asked Alonso to identify himself, he lied to officers and gave the name Jose Alonso.

Upon learning Alonso's real name, officers determined that he had 3 warrants out for his arrest. One from the Kerrville Sheriff's Office for forgery and two from Bexar County for DWI with a child and criminal mischief, plus traffic warrants from Lufkin Police.

Alonso gave officers consent to search his vehicle where officers found digital scales in the glove box with a white powder residue.

The substance tested positive for crack cocaine.

Police also found clear baggies with residue of a white powder that also tested positive for crack cocaine along with a small bag of marijuana located in Alonso's right front pocket.

Alonso was arrested and charged with failure to ID, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Alonso is in the Angelina County Jail on a $3,500 bond for the combined charges.
