MADISON, TN (WSMV) -

Metro Police say a father of three Jayson Hazley was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday, and the driver didn't bother to stop.

"It's the support of the family that gets you through times like this," said Jayson's sister, Brittney Hines. "Jayson was very loved, which is why I can't understand why someone would keep going. I believe that God will and can find who did this."

Police said Jayson Hazley and a friend were crossing Briley Parkway near the Ellington Parkway exchange around 5 a.m. Saturday morning. They were using the highway as a shortcut between Hazley's apartment and the friend's hotel room.

According to police, Hazley was struck by a silver, 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police have recovered the vehicle involved in the hit and run crash. The car was located at a home on Ames Drive. It has been impounded and is being processed.

"The friend said they were walking and it happened so fast," said Hines. "The car swerved and hit him, and he says he just saw him fly up. He hit him very hard for where he landed."

While the search for the driver continues, Hines and her family said they want justice for a man who was a cook for the downtown Nashville Demos, played drums for the Church of the Living God since he was a child, and most importantly, was father to three young children.

"He has three beautiful children under the age of six," said Hines. "They need to know their father, his death was not in vain. We don't want this to happen to anyone else. I wouldn't wish this feeling on my worst enemy. I just want my brother back."
