Know Before You Go: Bridge construction to cause lane closures on downtown ramps

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The week of September 16 promises more traffic changes for the construction of the new downtown and east end bridges. Work is beginning to move more to downtown streets this week, with only a couple of interstate ramps affected.

Work currently underway:

Louisville Streets:

The left two lanes of Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street are scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, September 18 for work on a temporary signal.

The right lane of Preston Street from Market Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, September 18 for work on a temporary signal.

The right two lanes of Main Street from Hancock Street to Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Monday, September 16 for pile driving in the area.

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled for Monday, September 16:

The ramp from I-71 South to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, September 16 for re-striping.  It's scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 18:

The ramp from I-64 East to I-71 North is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday and Thursday (September 18-19) for work on temporary lighting.  It's scheduled to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, September 16:

The right lane of Witherspoon Street from River Road to Clay Street is expected to be closed Monday, September 16-Monday, September 23 for utility relocation.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 17:

The three left lanes of Main Street from Hancock Street to Jackson Street are scheduled to close Tuesday night, leaving one lane open to traffic.   The lanes are expected to close around 7 p.m. Tuesday and reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday.  Storm sewer work is being done in the area.

The right two lanes of Jefferson Street from Floyd Street to Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed Tuesday, September 17-Monday, September 23 for work on a temporary signal.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 18:

The right lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, September 18-Thursday, September 19 for work in the area.

Work scheduled to begin Thursday, September 19:

The right lane of Witherspoon Street from Clay Street to I-65 is scheduled to be closed Thursday, September 19-Tuesday, September 24 for utility relocation.

The left lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed Thursday, September 19-Friday, September 20 for work in the area.

The right lane and right parking lane on Market Street are scheduled to be closed Thursday, September 19-Saturday, September 21 for pile driving in the area.

The left lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed Thursday, September 19-Thursday, September 26 for work on a temporary signal.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South is closed through the Spring of 2016.

The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard  is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

79th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street.  This is a permanent closure.

VFW Boulevard has closed from 79th Street to 99th Street.   This is a permanent closure

US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes for several months.

US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane for several months.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 109th Street.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
