Dinosaurs take over the Oil Palace

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Sixty-five million years ago, dinosaurs walked the earth, and they are again right now at the Oil Palace in Tyler. Well, they're standing, anyway. The Discover the Dinosaurs exhibit is open Friday and runs through the weekend.

Steven Rosholt travels 51 weeks a year with 12 other people and around 60 dinosaurs. They drive, build monsters, amaze people and maybe a little uneasy, then take apart the monsters and drive some more. But why?

"Al lot of us around the office were trying to figure out a kid-friendly and family-fun type of event that everyone could come together and enjoy and it kept coming back around to dinosaurs," said Steven.

"It usually takes us about two and a half days to set up a show. We move around. We're usually in a new city new state every week. It's definitely a lot of work but once it's up and running and you see the kids come in, it makes all that work worth it," Steven stated.

The metal and rubber mecha-saurs obviously only consume electricity, and they do break from time to time. The group has gotten very proficient at electro-surgery of the European-built machines.

There's a lot of interactivity in the show and you can even push the dinosaur's buttons.

Just be careful not to push the wrong one.

Some of the kids might get a little worked up during the tour, so they've provided a way to work some of that out before getting back in the car with mom and dad: An inflatable dino playground.

And if you're brave enough you can even ride one.

The exhibit is at The Oil Palace in Tyler. It runs until 9 p.m. on Friday, then from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $17 for adults, $12 for children and $15 for seniors. For more information, visit their website here
