LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A district investigation has been launched into an alleged physical confrontation between an East Texas coach and a student during halftime of a football game.

Head Coach Derek Fitzhenry is accused of roughly handling a student at last Friday night's football game.

Vicki Echols, spokesperson for Pine Tree Independent School District, Fitzhenry's employer, said today that no decisions have been made regarding the status of Coach Derek Fitzhenry. He has been placed on administrative leave, Echols said, and Coach Derrek Hannigan will serve as the acting head coach for the Friday night game against Center ISD.

Echols stressed that because this is a personnel issue, the school district is legally and ethically bound not to provide any details. The district is looking into the issues and, according to Echols, the issues will be addressed at the board meeting on Monday, September 9.
