E. Texas school district says yes to concealed weapons for staff

Posted: Updated:
RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A local school district has become the fifth district in East Texas to allow staff to carry concealed weapons on campus.

Faculty and staff at Leverett's Chapel Independent School District will be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus. The school district's board of trustees made the decision at an August meeting.

School officials say the move was decided in the interest of protecting students. Staff members who carry concealed firearms on campus will be required to have advanced weapons training.

The district joins other such as Cayuga ISD, Union Grove ISD, Westwood ISD, and Huntington ISD.

Leverett's Chapel ISD is located between Kilgore and Overton in Rusk County.
