TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Police have arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Tyler mother in P.T. Cole Park on July 30 in Tyler.
Tyler police confirm that Elisha "EJ" Williams, 18, of Tyler is in police custody as of Thursday morning. Police say he was involved in the shooting death of Briana Raquel Young, 20, who was shot to death while playing with her 3-year-old son at the Tyler park.
According to police, a tip lead police to a residence in the 600 block of South Fenton Avenue in Tyler around 9:45 Thursday morning where Williams was staying.
"Two ladies came out of the residence, behind them came a pit bull. The officers requested that they take the dog and put the dog back in the residence. Those requests went ignored. The dog then aggressively came toward officers and they felt in fear for their own safety as well the others there at the residence, so they shot the dog and the dog was killed. Elisha Williams then came out and surrendered to arrest," Lynch explained.
Since officers did use their weapons, that will be investigated as well.
"Just like in any of our use of force cases, that will be turned over to the investigators for review and a determination will be made," Lynch said.
At this time, no charges have been filed against the people Williams was staying with.
Lynch said he does not believe there are any more suspects involved in the fatal shooting.
We did ask if the residents in the home where Williams was hiding would be charged with harboring a fugitive, however Lynch said no charges have been filed at this time.
This is an ongoing investigation.
