OVPD says no threat at Ironwood Ridge High School

The implied threat directed towards Ironwood Ridge High School has been resolved. The Oro Valley Police Department has confirmed the posting was sent by a minor not intending to cause harm. Lieutenant Riley said no criminal violations were made.

Amphitheater School District has released the following statement:

On September 3, 2013 Amphitheater Public Schools became aware of a situation involving a posting on a social media site that indicated Ironwood Ridge High School would be known in the next week.   The Oro Valley Police Department conducted an investigation, and learned that the person who posted the message is a minor, and had no malicious intent.

We appreciate that citizens take notice of postings on social media sites and contact school administrators and police when there is a concern.

As a cautionary measure, we will have added additional police presence to our campus for the next few days.

Oro Valley Police were investigating an implied threat that has been circulating around social media that is directed at Ironwood Ridge High School.

Lieutenant Kara Riley with OVPD said it's a top priority with the school and the students. She said a Tweet of a flier shows the threat, which implies the school will be known worldwide by next week.

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (September 4, 2013) - The Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) received information on September 3, 2013 of a possible threatening posting that had been made on the internet about Ironwood Ridge High School. OVPD criminal investigations unit began immediately investigating this threat, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).  Through the investigation it was learned that the author of the posting was a minor child and that there was no malicious intent to the posting and no criminal violations of the law.  OVPD would like to thank the public for their  proactive involvement in this case.
