Hello everyone, and happy Tuesday!

Here are some stories of interest for you this afternoon:

1. On Tuesday morning, the Texas Department of State Health Services released a statement urging people to make sure they're vaccinated against pertussis, saying projections show the number of people sick with the deadly disease this year is on track to reach the highest level in more than 50 years. Read more here and join us on East Texas News at 5 for a discussion with Dr. Ed Dominguez on the subject.

2. Tyler police have arrested retired Tyler pharmacist James Carey Prosperie, 73, of Tyler, after a standoff at his home on Jeff Davis Drive. SWAT team members helped with the situation. Read more here and see KLTV's Mitch Goulding's report on East Texas News at 5 and 6.

3. New Texas laws you need to know, including the new law saying that anyone under the age of 18 is prohibited from using a tanning bed. This law comes after the discovery that the most common cancer in 15 to 29-year-olds is melanoma. Other laws you'll want to know about here.

4. Lifelong Longview/Hallsville resident Mrs. Irene Coleman turned 100 today, and a big birthday party was held in her honor at Whispering Pines Lodge. Read what she had to say about living for a full century!

5. East Texas toilet in running for America's top pot; a national uniform and restroom supply company is hosting the 12th annual "Bowl Games" in an effort to find America's best restroom. Ten pristine potties are in the running to become this year's winner, and one of them is located in Sulphur Springs.

6. A Texas grand jury decided not to charge a father who reportedly beat a man to death for raping his 5-year-old daughter. The 23-year-old man sent his son and daughter to feed the chickens at their ranch near Shiner on June 9, reports the Daily Mail, when the boy returned to tell his dad someone had grabbed his sister and dragged her to a secluded shack.

7. The reward for Larry Valdez, 43, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, has increased to up to $20,000 for information leading to his capture if the tip comes in during the month of September. An additional reward of up to $5,000 has been offered by North Texas Crime Stoppers for Valdez's arrest. Valdez has a violent criminal past and is wanted for parole violation, aggravated assault with deadly weapon and assault causing bodily injury-family violence. See more details here.
