MDA Telethon on ABC Sunday

It's been a Labor Day television tradition, and a star-studded event, for more than 40 years. And this year, the MDA Show of Strength will appear right here on ABC. That's unlike previous years, when the telethon for Muscular Dystrophy aired on various network affiliates.

It's like family movie night, only it used to last for more than 20 hours.

"Basically any event that MDA puts on, I'm usually very involved in," Olivia LeVoy, who has Spinal Muscular Dystrophy, said.

She's also Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2012. East Texas MDA has helped LeVoy since she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at the age of four.

"Whatever money is raised in Tyler stays here in the Tyler MDA office, which is why we have so many events, we need so many volunteers, so many people that donate, because whatever money is raised here goes to the Tyler families and patients," LeVoy said.

MDA provides flu shots, wheel chairs, and pays for doctor visits for those with Muscular Dystrophy.

"It makes me feel like I am loved here in Tyler."

And the East Texas chapter makes it personal. One of LeVoy's favorite memories was when MDA helped organize a fundraiser that her entire high school attended, even holding a pep rally to support her.

"Just having all that support and the outpouring and my school just raising money for MDA to help me and other people with MDA in Tyler," she said.

That's why LeVoy and her family will be tuning in this Sunday for another year of the telethon.

"It's challenging, but at the same time, you can't let the disability stop you; the disability doesn't make you, I make the disability."

You can catch this year's televised benefit concert on KLTV and KTRE this Sunday at 8:00p.m.
