NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Newport police arrested a DUII suspect accused of slamming into two cars and then taking a walk on the beach.

Officers were called out to the intersection of Highway 101 and Northeast 52nd Street at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said a woman driving a gray Chevy Tahoe hit two cars stopped for a red light, got out of her vehicle and took off.

The people in the other two cars were able to provide police with a description of the driver.

Officers soon spotted three people walking on the beach near the surf line in the area of the Agate Beach Wayside. An officer drove a patrol car on the sand and stopped the three people.

Luz Uribe, 45, of Newport, was identified as the driver of the Tahoe. Officers said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol on her, along with other signs of impairment. The two passengers stated Uribe was driving the vehicle.

One passenger was bleeding from the forehead and required medical attention.

Uribe said she left the scene of the crash because she doesn't have a driver's license, according to investigators. She refused to take a field sobriety test or a breath test.

She was arrested and charged with DUII, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. She was also issued citations for having an open container, refusing a breath test and driving while suspended. Her bail was set at $80,000.

No other injuries were reported.
