SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Commissioner's Court voted to extend the county's burn ban and drought disaster declaration until further order of the court. The county has also ordered signs to put on main highways to notify residents of the ban.

A burn ban was first issued for the county on Thursday.

With the upcoming Labor Day holiday this weekend, residents are reminded that they are allowed to grill outside as long as there is a lid on any open flame.

Hunt, Frank, Titus, Cass, Marion, Upshur, Camp, Kaufman, Henderson, Smith, Gregg, Rusk, Panola, Anderson, Nacogdoches, Shelby, San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, Trinity and Houston Counties are all under a burn ban at this time.
