Detectives from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the shooting of a man near Frazier Homes in the 600 block of West Gwinnett Street Monday night.
According to SCMPD the shooting took place at 6:33 pm. The victim, a man in his early 30s, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with life-threatening wounds.
Alderman Van Johnson was across the street participating in the Ask an Alderman event when the shooting took place. He says this violence should not be a norm.
"We have to be serious enough to realize that there is an issue of black men and crime in this community, not be afraid to say it, and make sure that we isolate the issue and deal with the issue. There's a young man right here who's nine years old and a young man here who's 11 years old. How are we going to make sure that they get to grow up to be an old man like me and fulfill their dreams." said Johnson.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
A confidential Tip Line also is open directly to investigators at (912) 525-3124.
