Car break-ins up in Perrysburg neighborhoods

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Car thefts are up across Perrysburg, and police want residents to know how to protect their property and prevent more break-ins.

Police say most of the thefts are occurring at night. Someone is stealing credit cards and expensive GPS equipment, but police say it can be prevented with a few simple steps: Keep doors locked and never leave valuables out in the open for people to see.

They also want to remind residents that just because they may not see crime in their neighborhood, that doesn't mean it's not happening.

"I don't care where you live, because we've lived in Toledo for many years and we've lived here now for many years," said concerned resident Mary Mills. "We always lock our doors, we lock our cars. We even lock our cars inside the garage, just for extra precaution. I think you can never be too safe or too careful."

The police say vehicle thefts are tough to solve, so they need residents to help keep a closer eye on what's going on in their community.
